Black Brilliance, Civil Rights History Remembered and the Women of Ukraine: February on WORLD
This February, in celebration of Black History Month, WORLD is premiering two new HBCU Week episodes on LOCAL, USA; encores of AFROPOP: THE ULTIMATE CULTURAL EXCHANGE; a special presentation of EYES ON THE PRIZE; and more. Also this month, Ukrainian women share their personal experiences of enduring life in a war zone in the new DOC WORLD film, “Ukrainian Storybox: A Woman’s War,” and STORIES FROM THE STAGE brings love and storytelling together with new episodes in time for Valentine’s Day.

A New Year of Documentaries on WORLD in 2025: What to Watch in January
2025 brings a new year with new predictions on what lies ahead for the country, the world and its people. This January, WORLD is celebrating the new while embracing the moments of our past. A new LOCAL, USA film, “Road Scholars,” premieres on January 13, and two new episodes of STORIES FROM THE STAGE feature stories of legacy, honor and resilience. Also this month is an encore presentation of “Fannie Lou Hamer’s America” ahead of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, examining civil rights and racial justice through the eyes of one of our history’s most iconic leaders.

Through eight seasons of Stories from the Stage, the award-winning show has encountered over 400 storytellers from all walks of life. Each has bravely stepped into the spotlight to tell the world about one of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. It’s an act of courage that transforms fear into empowerment, leaving both the tellers and the audience changed. Three of these storytellers – Jason Prokowiew, James Griffin and Connie Chin – share how friends, family, and complete strangers have reacted to them telling their stories and what the experience has taught them about themselves and the power of storytelling.
